Camel rides in the Sahara desert is an experience of a lifetime. Saharan nights are special, starting with an amazing desert sunset over the sand dunes, followed by delicious Moroccan food and finishing with a spectacular view of the milky way galaxy.
Leaving Marrakech in a comfortable land cruiser with our experienced drivers, winding your way through the Atlas Mountains, this is real Berber country. The scenery changes dramatically as do the people, you drive south across the magnificent High Atlas Mountains and the Tiz-n-Tichka pass arriving at lunch time at the impressive and well-preserved kasbahs and UNESCO world heritage site, the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. If you choose to stop here for the night you will get the chance to visit this picturesque fortified village, which has been used as a film location in numerous famous films such as ‘Gladiator’, ‘Alexander’ and ‘The Mummy’.
Your Morocco tour then takes you along the Draa Valley with its ocean of green palms and majestic purple mountains. The Draa Valley once served as a link between the Sahara desert and the North of Morocco for the trading caravan route that passed by the river for centuries. The last main town is Zagora a cool place to stop and buy your turban.
You can drive directly to the Desert Camp from Marrakech which takes 8 hours, but we recommend you do the journey in two days, enabling you to enjoy a Morocco tour and the magical Ait Ben Haddou – city of the Kasbahs. Crossing the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou takes just 4 hours.
The Desert CampM'Hamid is next to the last major oasis one encounters on the way south into the greater Sahara. The area was historically important as the site (Sidi Khalil) where trade caravans gathered (some as large as 5,000 camels) before setting off to Timbuktu

Ait Ben HaddouAït Benhaddou is a fortified city, or ksar, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco.
Camp Adounia is in the desert between October and May.
Prices include accommodation, meals and drinks. Dietary requirements are catered for.
The journey to the desert camp from Marrakech is 9 hours total – 4 hours to Ait Ben Haddou, with an 1 hour break, and then 4 hours to Sahara.
Transport to the Sahara and back in 4 x 4 Toyota with driver is £100 per day. The landcruisers can take a maximum of 5 clients and baggage should be a minimum.
