Adounia meaning ‘Life’ was created with the fragility of the Sahara desert environment in mind, sustainable tourism, the local Moroccan culture and desert nomad artisans. We are a comfortable tented camp who uses solar energy, and sustainable practices to ensure travellers on a Moroccan holiday find peace and relaxation while in harmony with the Earth.

Desert Camp Adounia is a special type of camping experience, full of home comforts such as; comfy mattresses and cotton bed linen, hammam towels, dry toilets and ecological toiletries. Family tents can take 2 extra beds - sleeping accommodation can be set-up to twin or super king beds. The tents are furnished from a collection of items from Emma’s shop and include Berber rugs, Beni Ouarain, handira, Tuareg mats and textiles from the tribes of Morocco.

The camp is designed to blend in with the natural Moroccan environment and operate in a way that respects local communities. People who choose a camping holiday with Adounia are looking for a philanthropic travel experience.  People like us who have traveled throughout their lives and are looking for a real life experience as well as a relaxing holiday.  Parents love to share Adounia with their children and enjoy camping with a touch of comfort.

The Desert camp is located in the Moroccan Sahara at Erg Birtam, (Erg meaning dunes) a sacred Saharawi site 40 minutes through dunes from Mhamid or Tagounite. We specifically sought out this healing space for Morocco Retreats - to provide a sanctuary for incredible healing through connection to the powerful healing of the earth.

Our professional desert drivers can be booked through the camp for the duration of your tour and they know our exact location. People wishing to self-drive can leave their cars in Mhamid and book desert transfers to the camp from there.

The Camps can be booked just like a hotel throughout the year by individuals, families, groups and retreat companies. With Emma and Samir’s catering and logistical experience of large scale events and weddings, Adounia is a superb location for a special group booking. 

The en-suite bathrooms include mineral water for brushing teeth, hot and cold water for washing and dry toilets. The Adounia team of Berber Nomads are always around to offer advice, information, play football or take you ‘sand boarding’.

We are all about food at Camp Adounia. In the Sahara vegetables and meat are sourced from local suppliers or ordered from Zagora. Bottled water is provided in your tents and regularly on request. For groups we provide jugs of water with lemon in the yoga and workshop tent. Our kitchen is run on gas and solar.

We have excellent cooks in our team and hygiene is of paramount importance to us. Having run wellness holidays and retreats for 6 years we are able to cater to any dietary requirements. Emma, and chef Ilham have completed vegan and vegetarian cooking courses delivered by John Bailey of Cashew Catering in the UK. Emma and Ilham cater for Marrakech weddings and commissioned to manage and cater for desert and beach weddings and parties.
